Inspired by the group’s collective interest in queering post-colonial histories, Toronto’s Pantayo render contemporary electronic production and diasporic Filipino culture into a pop LP that explores the untapped potential of this fusion. Modern R&B and the grounding influence of kulintang music — music played on a set of gongs and percussive metallophones — inform the likes of ‘Divine’ in form its lyrical meditations on self-love.
