bergonist’s third LP and her first for Optimo, Middle Ouest is a hugely impressive statement from the one born Selwa Abd. Some of Middle Ouest builds on Abd’s excellent recent EP run, serving up terse and scuffed-up techno tracks that are pulled apart and reformed in real-time in a manner similar to Metrist. However, Abd’s desire to challenge both herself and the listener results in a rather varied set of tracks - while Middle Ouest begins with the clattering percussion of its title-track, by the end we are being given slow, slinky electronic ballads that recall Marie Davidson.
