New ep on the excellent Stuff records from this pseudo Glaswegian duo have prepared a sick Akufen/Soft Pink Truth style, micro-sampled ep. Magic Daddy kicks off with ?Engines of the Deep? - a funk-filled bleepy techno ride that?s anything but minimal. Keeping the funk but adding a slinky two step influence is the breaky ?Peppermint Junction? which could almost be described as Plaid on steroids. Finishing it all off is the funky hip-hop track ?Wanderdog?, a track which shows off the Daddy?s love of hip-hop producers like DJ Premier and the Neptunes. The Truffle Club aka Dave Clark (not that Dave Clarke) is the star of the first ever release of Stuffrecords which (charted by Ricardo Villalobos) and also the bloke known for his collaborations with like-minded musician and DJ Twitch (aka Betty Botox) on some high profile mixes of Franz Ferdinand and Sons & Daughters. Side two kicks off with the sweet R&B influenced electronica of ?Sweatclutch?, dedicated to all the ladies on the dance floor. Providing a brief interlude is the nightmare lounge jazz of ?Shrig?, a reworking of a loop from a fellow Glaswegian. Rounding things off is the cheekily titled ?Frig Magnet?, a song which shows off Dave?s approach to techno, comprised of millions of samples, dubby effects, live sounding drums.
