The second release on Jonny Greenwood’s Octatonic imprint features performances of pieces by Michael Gordon and Greenwood himself. Gordon’s 1992 composition ‘Industry’ is performed by cellist Oliver Coates, with Greenwood adding distortion at points. It grows from a tranquil yet eerie beginning to a choppy, frenetic end section reminiscent of Michael Abels’ music for Get Out. The other piece here, Greenwood’s ‘Water’, is a droning piece for small ensemble that touches on Indian raga forms, twelve-tone serialism and chamber music.
