Philip Quinn’s sound expands on his second LP as Gross Net. Whereas 2016’s Quantitative Easing was a Silent Servant-esque rampage through coldwave, EBM and synth-punk, Gross Net Means Gross Net is more ambitious. This isn’t to say Quinn has abandoned his previous style - there are still plenty of menacing techno-adjacent beats here - but this record sounds bigger than its predecessor and contains a wider range of timbres. Warbling choral sounds, blooming keyboard pads and dawn-chorus synths are all employed to fine effect across Gross Net Means Gross Net.
