Thought Freddie Gibbs and Madlib would never be able to top Pinata? Think again. Five years on from that LP - now considered a classic of modern hip-hop - the duo sometimes known as MadGibbs prove themselves to be a class apart once again with their new full-length Bandana. This record has a more pristine and polished feel to it than the gritty Pinata, probably something to do with Madlib making the entire thing on his iPad. There is still no-one out there who can get close to this pair’s combination of ultra-real flows and languid, luxurious beatwork. The respect in which MadGibbs are held is evidenced by Bandana’s guestlist - Pusha T, Killer Mike and Yasiin Bey are but three of the star collaborators here.
