It’s anyone’s guess what Shellac’s secretive second release The Futurist sounds like, having been privately issued to close friends only. But its follow-up Terraform, as far as the rest of us are concerned, acts and sounds as a game changing secondary effort. Toning down the abrasiveness of their debut, Terraform ups the atmospherics into a stunningly mature work. 12-minute opener ‘Didn't We Deserve a Look at You the Way You Really Are’ stands out as one of the trio’s finest songs: a vertiginously minimal rhythm staggering into oblivion until combustion.
