A split vinyl release between the Berlin-based Italian composer Caterina Barbieri and drone musician Eleh is issued on Important Records, the American home of influential artists such as Merzbow. The vinyl, entitled ‘SPLIT’, features an eight minute sound poem from each composer, with Barbieri’s ‘Bestie Infinite’ arriving in conjunction with her ‘Born Again in the Voltage’ LP, a collection of Buchla 200 studies recorded at Stockholm’s Elektronmusikstudion by the modular synthesist between 2015 and 2016. Barbieri’s track differs from Eleh’s ‘Wear Patterns’ in terms of timbral quality, with Eleh preferring to stick to sub and mid frequencies for the most part on his side of the split. Both offerings are relatively austere forays into drone and minimalist composition.
