The sophomore LP from Evan Reiner’s Gossamer project arrives via Innovative Leisure (Rhye, BadBadNotGood). Imperishable is a melancholy and beautiful record of droning synths made moth-eared by distortion. The tracks here are pitched somewhere between Ian William Craig and bvdub, with one idea generally eked out for several minutes at a time. Aided by Animal Collective/Portugal, The Man producer Sonny DiPerri on the desk, Reiner has made an album that distils the best elements of 2015’s Automaton while stripping out his debut record’s excursions into IDM and Brainfeeder-style beatwork. Imperishable is quieter, stiller, and all the more potent than its predecessor.
