Hailing from Taiwan, Alex Zhang Hungtai, the Canadian musician known for his work in Dirty Beaches, Last Lizard and Love Theme, has released his new album Divine Weight. Entrenching himself in Jodoworsky’s work and the director’s studies on psychomagic theory in the run up to the LP’s creation, Hungtai states that Divine Weight focuses on something close to cultural heritage, the impact this has on our identity and the dream like state of our existence and relationship to the world. Forged from unsuccessful saxophone recordings later modified to the point of near irrecognition, Divine Weight is an immersive body of sound that takes the listener on a transcendental voyage of depth and discovery. Reminiscent of Popol Vuh and their work on the Aguirre, Wrath of God soundtrack.
