DJ Richard is a Rhodes Island based ambient house and techno producer. His first releases garnered acclaim in 2012 after their distribution by the underground label White Material (Richard is a co-founder alongside Quinn Taylor). Relocating temporarily to Berlin, Richard released his first full length album, GRIND, in 2015. DIES IRAE XEROX is his second studio album and, like his first, will be distributed by Berlin based label, Dial. Focusing on a particular period in cultural history, DIES IRAE XEROX draws influence from the traditions and orphism of Medieval European art. While GRIND was a toned down ambient affair, DIES IRAE XEROX seems to have absorbed some of the darker atmospheres synonymous with Berlin techno production. It is harder, heavier, tracks like ‘In Broad Daylight’ unsettle listeners with its haunted bassline while additional snares speed up and warp the sonic experience further.
