I done a certain narcotic for the first time in my bedroom listening to Andrea Parker, the first 'Nobody’s Perfect' CD, lets just say it helped me achieve my goal. I’ve followed her work since I can remember, extremely talented, and she's a fucking hoot in person! This LP is timeless.
There were a lot of sticky bedsheets when I discovered Skull Disco! This first release kicked it all off, and came at a pivotal moment for me. I bought everything the label put out, and subsequently became engrossed with that whole scene. Subdub & DMZ nights at the West Indian centre in Leeds were a blast! All before the genre lost its way.
How could I not?! Very proud to have introduced SØS to the world, she’s going to be a star, and for all the right reasons!
I can’t claim to have ever really extensively listened to Autechre. Criminal in some quarters, and my pals berate me for it. But every time I have a chance to see them live something comes up that makes it impossible. I’ll catch them on their greatest hits tour when they’re 70. I close my eyes and dip my hand in.
More self promotion for Contort, but worthy of it. Emanuele nails this LP. Perfect for those upcoming winter nights.
We played together in Italy once, strange pairing, but I’m all for eclecticism in a program. Top man, Scott kindly passed me this album a few months ago, it helps me turn off, bringing me back from the edge.
I tried in vein to bring Torsten out of retirement for the Contort program at Berlin Atonal, he was having none of it. Shame, but at least I can play his records on my own terms.
There’s such honesty with her work which brings its own innocence and beauty, no pre-manufactured pop bollocks; it feels like her soul, and that voice……..
We played together in Seoul this summer, and his live set was something else! If it hadn’t of been for my life ending hangover there would've been a little bit more than the casual foot tap.
