Michael Giacchino’s score for the second Star Trek film shares some of the creepiness of James Horner’s Wrath of Khan, but more than comfortably holds its own with a rousing and courageous string-led ‘Main Theme’. Oscar-winner Giacchino shows off some sad cellos on ‘Ode to Harrison’, and a double insider-joke on the chanting ‘Kronos Wartet’. Timeless and gigantic, this could just as comfortably soundtrack an epic Roman showdown as it can adventures in space.
