Well, this one is a ray of sunshine. Oliver Postgate’s Bagpuss is perhaps the most iconic children’s television show in British history. Its success was due in no small part to the musical compositions Sandra Kerr and John Faulkner came up with to accompany the cloth cat’s antics. From novel takes on old folk standards to singular compositions like the mice interludes, the pair’s scoring style managed to hit a sweet spot that charmed kids and adults alike. On Earth Recordings’ The Music From Bagpuss we are treated to both beloved classics from the show and some rather special outtakes - Postgate soundchecking in character as Bagpuss is a particularly jolly treat.
