Remain
Emotions Electric remaster and reissue a foundational 1990s techno LP from Ismistik. Originally released in 1995, the expansive Remain LP is a compelling reason to hang about in the afterparty basement, as the ambient swirl of ‘Absence’, ‘Running Water’ and ‘Tortoise Thoughts’ invoke the blotted grooves behind a night of heavy dancefloor movement. ‘Woodvibe’ might just have you back on your feet with its squelching bass and climbing leads, just as the chattering hi hat of ‘Flowcharts Remade’ stands to kick off another communal gathering well into the morning light.
3rd Trace
Emotions Electric continue their rediscovery of foundational 1990s techno releases with another Ismistik cut from the Djax-Up-Beats catalogue. 1993’s 3rd Trace is a foundation for the genre, and acts as a whistle stop tour of what made techno’s golden age unbeatable. ‘Resynch’ mounts the tension with delicately bleeping leads and a heart-racing hi hat skitter, as ‘Option Bass’ and ‘Monospace’ flesh out glowing pads and mounting bass with euphoric handclaps.
Oasis EP
Emotions Electric offer up another tasty slice of remastered and reissued classic techno goodness from genre OG Ismistik’s triumphant Djax-Up-Beats run. 1992’s Oasis EP sees producer and DJ Bjørn Torske flaunt his rhythmic sophistication with nu-disco smoothness on ‘Oasis’, a refined sensibility he carries through the cerebral twinkling of ‘Flow Charts’. Pure percussive mastery comes in the form of closer ‘Object Code’, in which snappy snare hits and sputtering hi hats pull and push beneath misted pads.
Bonus Bouncers EP
Emotions Electric take us back to where it all began with Bonus Bouncers EP, the Djax-Up-Beats debut of Ismistik and, the first of his techno innovations to be set to wax. Originally released in 1991, and here reissued and remastered, the opener ‘A1’ sets the stage for glories to come as a lightly driving rhythm section makes way for synthesised, rave-ready highs. Hands-in-the-air moments become nimbly subverted on ‘A2’ and ‘B1’, where DJ-producer mastermind shows off a distinctly experimental flair with playful melodies.
