From his 2023 solo exhibition Strahlen/Raggi at Fondazione Modena Arti Visive, Carsten Nicolai (AKA Alva Noto) presents Ray Collector, an “intimate, poetic” and “collective, sensitive immersive experience” combining light, sound, and human connection. Like sonic seed dispersal, he hijacks the postal system and plays it as his very own instrument: ten packages containing identical blank tape and film were sent from Berlin to various Island locations across the globe all addressed to a certain "Mr. Nemo" to be purposefully returned to sender. They collected radiation on their journeys, visualised in ghostly blurs and shadows and sonified in delicate drips and clicks whispering above the background noise.
