Plenty has happened to A Place To Bury Strangers since the release of their last LP, 2015’s Transfixiations. Along with personal changes - the closing down of frontman Oliver Ackerman’s living-/work-/rehearsal space (Brooklyn’s Death By Audio), the introduction of new drummer Lia Simon Braswell as a full-time member of the band - there has also been the small matter of the election of Donald Trump. These changes have refreshed the noise-rock band’s sound, driving a group who never exactly took it easy on the noise to some of their most visceral work yet. Pinned highlights like ‘Too Tough To Kill’ and ‘Look Me In The Eye’ are screeching, industrialised delights that bring to mind The Jesus And Mary Chain if they had been produced by Alec Empire.
