Rising star Alphonse debuts on Hypercolour with an EP that could well become the sound of the summer of 2018. This record sees the producer offering up three versions of his track ‘Better Weather’, each of which brings something new to the party. The original proves that house doesn’t have to be slow to be deep. Operating closer to 140 bpm than 120, ‘Better Weather’ combines a stonkingly funky drum break with soulful gospel vocals, Balearic chords and a twinkling synth motif. The end result comes across like a niftier, perkier version of Lindstrom or Bjorn Torske. His ‘Phazed Version’ takes a more psychedelic turn, obliquely recalling Cooly G’s ‘Booboo’, while the ‘Abyss Version’ finds a midpoint between the other two takes.
