This might be the first tape from Alexander P. J. Geiger under his new moniker of Fahrland, but the producer has been around the block a few times. Releases as Geiger and Nass in the 2000s on labels like Firm established Geiger’s reputation as an electro-pop savant, a purveyor of idiosyncratic indietronica as groovy as it was unique. After an eight year hiatus, Geiger has resurfaced on Kompakt with this new alias. Mixtape Vol. 1 is another aural smorgasbord from Geiger. Electro-funk, techno, deep house, hynpagogic pop and more are folded into this heady broth of a sound. Fahrland’s great trick is to synthesise all of these into a coherent whole - think Ween and Panda Bear collaborating, with Aphex Twin at the controls.
