The underrated Project Mooncircle deliver another LP of emotive electronic pop, this time courtesy of the New Zealand-based trio Groeni. Nihx - the second record the three-piece have delivered for PM - finds a neat middle-ground between the heart-on-sleeve songcraft of fellow Kiwi Jordan Rakei and the post-dubstep/UK Bass influence that was apparent on the group’s 2015 EP Hewn. Tender, quivering vocals dart around instrumentals that tend to feature rich synth chords and pattering electronic percussion. Obvious influences include Bonobo and SBTRKT, while there’s a little of The Antlers in here too. Sometimes, as on closer ‘Rest’, they let the drums fall away and emerge on to the wide-open vistas of Sigur Ros.
