Carl Craig’s 2017 LP Versus saw the veteran techno DJ redoing some of his classic cuts for orchestra. This second volume of remixes from the album has five producers working further magic on these shapeshifting numbers. Of course there are a couple of out-and-out club bangers here, notably the euphoric house takes from Henrik Schwarz and Secrets Of Elements. But the classical instrumentation also allows producers to eschew the dancefloor for some quieter, more considered cuts. Ishmael Ensemble’s reinterpretation of ‘The Melody’ has a downtempo two-step feel akin to Bonobo’s Black Sands, while Abul Mogard and Siavash Amini both turn in glacial ambiences.
