Blanck Mass put in overtime in the construction of his powerful, beautiful 2017 LP World Eater. That record was a cacophonous mix of power electronics, darkside trap and industrial techno that left little room for vocals. For World Eater Re-Voxed, Ben Power takes a step back and allows four artists to both musically and lyrically reimagine tracks from the album. The results, while keeping to the essence of World Eater, are pleasingly varied. Zola Jesus does her 80s power-pop thing on ‘Please’; the Naked remix of ‘Rhesus Negative’ might be even more brutal than the original; M. Lamar’s take on ‘Minnesota’ waxes and wanes with dark portent; and Gazelle Twin channel Antichrist Superstar-era Marilyn Manson for ‘The Rat’.
