Bradford duo Still Circles front their debut LP for fledgling imprint Killtone Records. 27:36 is a dreamy record, full of sighing keyboards and warm synth tones. A thick trip-hop seam runs through the drum programming here, but the overall effect is far removed from the claustrophobia and paranoia of classic Massive Attack, Portishead and the rest. Tracks like ‘Threadbare’ and ‘Only Noise’ spiral away in a manner not dissimilar to Boards Of Canada or erstwhile YouTube plunderphonicist Pogo. Singer Natalie Kolowiecki turns in crystal-clear vocal turns throughout 27:36, occasionally pushing the vibe towards Polica or the downtempo bits of Bonobo.
