Deadbeat has turned in a weighty piece here. Like an increasing amount of records surfacing during the Trump presidency, Wax Poetic For This Is Our Last Resolve finds itself preoccupied with gloomy forecasts and uncertain futures. However, rather than be consumed by fear and strife, this record reaches out and tries to find solace in other people. Deadbeat asked friends including Gudrun Gut, Thomas Fehlmann and T. Raumschmiere to send him a ‘message of hope’, a brief they were free to interpret however they saw fit. Largely, this has resulted in spoken-word meditations on the great problems of our age - everything from populism to climate change. When wed to Deadbeat’s typically well-groomed brand of dub techno, the results are both unsettling and uplifting.
