Double vinyl finally available again after years out of print, Ringer goes further than most and skirts the outer reaches of Kieran Hebden's sound showcasing a keen ear for melodic and spiraling elegant synth jams that move like few else. Across its four track 30 min duration, Ringer develops itself into what could essentially be seen as a Four Tet Krautrock meets dub techno record. For our money there's a lot of Carl Craig in these tracks, the pace is set on each composition with racing drums and very highly tuned flashes of synthesized sheets of sound like a proto-techno Bruno Spoerri. Coming three years after his much adorned Everything Ecstatic LP, Ringer was the first step towards the smoke-filled basement clubs of the late night/early morning Four Tet sound that has been explored within his recent sides. Acting as a timely reminder of where Hebden has come from but also showing back in 08 he was knocking out some of the most experimental house records around, this reissue stands as a timely reminder of the talent and scope Four Tet has always projected and continues to shine through up to this day. If you are unfamiliar with this LP you are in for a right treat and for those already in the loop, it's as fresh as ever.
