Second crucial Derek Bailey reissue from the Honest Jon’s in house label, this team a collaborative effort with Canadian-Dutch free jazz musician Tristan Honsinger. A fixture of Amsterdam’s small fluxus scene, Honsinger frequently teamed up with Bailey in the 70s and the pair maintained a solid relationship working together on various occasions. The likes of ‘The Visit’ and ‘The Shadow’ seem to exist in some sort of strange paradigm where performative, improvised motifs blend with a self-aware avant-garde humour. The end result is far from unlistenable, however, and there’s a charm in trying to envision what they were doing in the recording studio that we can’t hear.
