The band are back together! While Kool Keith may have dropped material under the Dr. Octagon moniker, purists will agree that the essence of Octagonology lies in his collaboration with Dan The Automator and DJ Q-Bert. The trio wrought havoc on 1996’s classic Dr. Octagonecologyst, and for the first time in more than two decades they have got back into the studio together for another LP. They clearly haven’t lost the magic. Moosebumps: An Exploration Into Modern Day Horripilation could have been beamed in from those mid-90s sessions, so intact is the group’s dynamism and energy. We get slapping horrorcore (‘Octagon Octagon’), trunk-rattling breaks (‘Area 54’) and the kind of elegant lyrical shadowboxing that Action Bronson has spent a whole career trying to nail (‘Flying Waterbed’).
