Paul White is dead, long live Paul White. Having steadily gained traction in the 2010s with his mad-genius brand of beatwork - a rise that culminated in him helming Danny Brown’s 2016 masterpiece Atrocity Exhibition - Rejuvenate finds White turning his back on the style that has made his name. Out go the samplers, the MCs and the general air of psychedelic mania. In their place we have an LP of well-turned-out pop songs with a mildly cosmic flavour to them. John Wizards springs to mind, as do Frank Ocean and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. While the initial switch-up may come as a shock, the ear for melody and way with composition White displays here will quickly bring you back to his side.
