Following releases on L.I.E.S., DFA and Computer Club in recent years, Japanese iconoclast NHK yx Koyxen continues to bend club-music structures to his will on his latest EP. Parallel Tempo’s five numbers manage to balance the sonic experimentalism that has characterised the Osaka producer’s output with an interest in making the party move. There are minimal techno elements to the likes of ‘Parallel Displacement’ and ‘Strange Gesture’ that will see them easily slide into sets of many DJs, yet their chirruping modulars will also turn heads in the dance. Elsewhere ‘Blue and Purple’ is a cautiously friendly IDM jam, while ‘M’ and ‘Universal Gesture’ are glitchy rollers.
