As Night Slugs gear up for their tenth birthday celebrations, Helix’s return serves as a refresher for all things good about the label. The third of three vinyl samplers for the producer’s Greatest Hits LPs is simultaneously the most formulaic and the most unusual of the trio. For a producer known for not so much citing influences as transplanting whole genres into his music, hearing him come through with three relatively straight-laced techno numbers is intriguing. Also, we say ‘relatively’ for a reason - the likes of ‘The Lyot Remix’ and ‘Spin My Break’ are full of the playful zaniness that has always characterised Helix’s best work.
