It’s been some time since we heard from Helix - after an initial flurry of releases for Night Slugs in the early 2010s that included the likes of ‘Drum Track’ and ‘Linn Jam’, Helix’s last release came in 2013 (though he has put out a little material as DJ Vague). It seems that he’s been keeping busy, though. Spread across three volumes, the producer returns with his cheekily-entitled Greatest Hits series. Three vinyl samplers are being released, and the first instalment concerns itself with reminding everyone what all the fuss was about back in the day. The likes of ‘Disko Chop’ and ‘DX Crowd (Chordy Version)’ display all the classic Helix traits. Vogue-inspired beat tracking, clanking percussion and synth stabs are combined to brilliant effect.
