Some thought we’d never see another Mr. Fingers album, but almost a quarter-century after 1994’s Back To Love we get a new LP from Larry Heard’s legendary project. Though so much time has passed since the last record, Cerebral Hemispheres demonstrates that Heard’s talent remains undimmed. The tracks here have all of the classic Heard tropes - soulful vocals, deeper-than-deep house grooves, a generous dollop of jazz influence etc. The likes of ‘Sao Paolo’ and ‘Crying Over You’ are warm, lights-low grooves to rival anything Heard has made in his long and illustrious career. Elsewhere ‘A Day In Portugal’ and ‘Tiger Lounge’ show off a neo-soul influence. Magic fingers.
