Sonic wizard Rob Clouth’s latest release sees him building on the frenetic IDM of his 2014-2015 Leisure System EPs. The four cuts of Transition bend familiar electronic music textures out of shape while still maintaining a focus on visceral groove. Dubstep, drum & bass, breakcore and other soundsystem styles are all laid to waste via Clouth’s electroacoustic treatment. ‘Silica’ and the title track sound like lost Venetian Snares/Digital Mystikz collaborations if the original vinyl had become mangled on the way to the pressing plant; ‘Like A Second Sun’ is mutated footwork; and ‘Shedding Layers’ is a constantly morphing techno juggernaut.
