The latest gem to fall from the Central Processing Unit conveyor belt is this LP by Tim Koch. Spinifex can be logged as one of the label’s most varied and dynamic releases. While there are a few perky electro jams of the sort that one associates with CPU, this is a record that takes in many styles over the course of its seventeen tracks. Punch in at any point and you’ll find yourself contending with twisted, noisy hip-hop (‘Hapax’), glitchy micro-tronica (‘Parallarap’), Blade Runner-inspired synthscapes (‘Gens Amplexi’) and more. It’s a testament to Koch’s skill as a producer that the album manages to cohere as a whole. Mouse On Mars and Matmos spring to mind. The Minidisc edition is exclusive to Bleep.
