Eric Chenaux’s highly unique approach to the singer-songwriter idiom sees him stumble on yet another collection of gorgeous songs for his latest LP. Everything about Chenaux’s style - his voice, his lyrics, his syrupy spools of guitar playing - hovers in a space between obfuscation and clarity, and Slowly Paradise works this tension to its advantage. The Canadian layers screwed jazz harmonies on top of each other until, seemingly by accident, he ends up with something lovely. Add in a voice that would give Chet Baker a run for his money and we have ourselves an idiosyncratic masterpiece. Out on his long-time home of Constellations.
