Jeff Mills turns in another stellar soundtrack album, this time steering his astral projection towards And Then There Was Light, a 2017 Japanese film of the same name, directed by Tatsushi Ōmori.

While it is easy to skip past the seemingly endless stream of CDs of Jeff Mills science fiction indebted techno albums, when you actually stop to take them in, they act as a timely reminder of why there is no one operating at the same level of just out and out brilliantness as him, within this galaxy or the next.

While we have not seen the film, And Then There Was Light to us sounds like pretty much all other recent years Jeff Mills releases... meaning truly stunning orchestrated sounds and techno that goes in so hard we'd advise not playing it in any room above ground level. At once it sounds as otherworldly as the coldest of the cold Mika Vainio pieces, yet it truly maintains the inexplicable early Mills'ian Tresor techno sound. For proof of this check the absolutely brain mangling hardcore stomp of The Hypnotists (Hikari mix) and Incoming. These are the sort of tracks that act as a perfect excuse for popping a few J-Mills and having some home raving with your pals.

While many may skip past this as it's not on wax, we can honestly say it's Jeff Mills albums like this that make it worth splashing out on a really good CD player. Essential purchase no matter what format you are into.
