Having been high throwing high rollers with Keysound, Soundman Chronicles, Wisdom Teeth & Sneaker Social Club. Etch kicks off Altered Roads, a label set up to exclusively release 12"s of the producer's standardised, impeccably put together takes on ambient drum & bass and hip-hop.
Starting things up with the richly cinematic soundscape 'When The Soul Departs The Body' Etch sets the scene nicely with some time stretched into oblivion space station Burial blues. Before 'Lore Of Samurai' spins some reverb-heavy breaks that easily slice through the tracks crafty samurai samples.
Going even further down the mid 90's dnb route than ever before 'Flamingo Grove' mixes all the elements of Photek's Ni - Ten - Ichi - Ryu with some Squarepusher choppage. Whilst the 12" ends with 'Defunkt Logic' taking some classic dubstep sounds inward and rounding off a solid start to the label.
As with everything Etch produces, it's undoubtfully solid all the way through while retaining an element of fun that is missing from most of the artists operating in this field right now. Don't let that tag put you off though, Altered Roads Vol.1 has some serious weight when its unleashed at a loud enough volume.
