Hot on the heels of her 2017 LP En Mouvement, Angele David-Guillou drops these five new offerings via Village Green (Dead Light, Ellis Island Sound). Mouvements Organiques sees the French composer reinterpreting five of the pieces from En Mouvement for solo organ. That said, the feeling of this record is quite at odds with the busy chamber music of the originals. For instance that album’s taut, lively ‘Vraisemblance’ becomes the glacial three-parter of ‘Mouvements Organiques’. There is plenty of William Basinski in the slow-burn of these offerings. David-Gillou allows herself to linger on chords and phrases in a manner that approaches the transcendental fug of Brian Eno’s most groundbreaking work.
