Peggy Gou has been climbing the ladder for a couple of years now, with releases on Rekids and Ninja Tune sub-label Technicolour already under her belt. For this EP she has graduated to Ninja Tune proper, and Once might mark the beginning of a breakout year for the Korean artist. The three tracks are poised, classy house jams that are taken to the next level by Gou’s vocals. ‘It Makes You Forget (Itgehane)’, all bouncing bass and busy percussion, is a summertime smash in waiting. This feeling is only added to by Gou’s singing - at once friendly and mysterious, her voice is perfect for the house style. ‘Hundres Times’ and ‘Han Jan’ both make good on her professed love of Maurice Fulton and DMX Krew.
