B12 sub-label FireScope front this new five-track from Darren Nye. A well-deserved vinyl pressing - despite more than twenty years in the game this is Nye’s first release on wax - sees Nye grab his chance with both hands. Like many of the other FireScope drops, Emotional Intelligence is rich, vaguely cosmic techno with a slight acid tang. Both sonically and aesthetically the first comparison that comes to mind here is Space Dimension Controller. Nye’s range means he is equally comfortable operating at slower tempos as at fast ones - see the 100-bpm closer ‘Disconnected Reality’. Elsewhere ‘Plasmid Soul’ and ‘Emulated Emotion’ sounds like cuts from Four Tet’s There Is Love In You re-rubbed by one of the CPU family.
