Bleep

The San Franciscan producer rounds out his trio of EPs for Dekmantel. Having begun with pure rhythm and rinsing his 303 for the second installment, Sector III: Polyphony finds Matrixxman focussing more on melody and harmony. The tracks here all feature minimal techno grooves of varying intensity - ‘Desert Planet’ is the spacey shuffle the title leads one to expect, while opener ‘Initiation’ is built on an unrelenting kick-and-hat pattern. Both ‘Initiation’ and fellow A-side ‘Access Granted’ feature undulating cells of melody that are spun out to hypnotic effect over six-and-a-half minutes. Closer ‘Horizon’ generates its polyphony from a parallel-fifths melody that might have been jacked from an 80s cop drama.
