Despite inspiring a lot of middling pretenders from 1990 to the present day, Spacemen 3 were actually great. Subversive, caustic and often beautiful, the band and their music continue to enthrall. Case in point: Dreamweapon, a record built around ‘An Evening of Contemporary Sitar Music’ that they lured unsuspecting concertgoers to in 1988. Omitting the sitar (of course), the band’s hypnotic drones preface the might of My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless as well as harking back to NYC minimalism. The release is fleshed out by two versions of ‘Ecstasy’ and the side-long ‘Spacemen Jam’.
