Bleep

The second in a trio of mini-albums from the Scottish indie royalty here. Full of vim and verve as ever, Stuart Murdoch drives the group onward through these five tender ditties. The record kicks off with ‘Show Me The Sun’, which is as good a pop song B&S have ever turned out. There’s a nice dichotomy to the chunky, chirpy instrumental and Murdoch’s tortured lyrics that find themselves caught between strife and triumph, joy and pain. Violinist/vocalist Sarah Martin turns songwriter on ‘The Same Star’, a Motown-inspired number that recalls fellow Scots Camera Obscura. Elsewhere ‘I’ll Be Your Pilot’ and ‘A Plague On Other Boys’ show that the group haven’t forgotten how to do a good slowie.
