Centre is the second Drums Off Chaos release to see light of day since Jaki Liebezeit sadly passed away in January 2017. The Can founding member started the project in the 1980s with the intention of investigating drumming in a deep and meaningful way. Featuring a revolving cast of members, Drums Off Chaos pushes the form of the drum circle as far as people like Steve Reich and Boredoms. Many of the tracks here (unsurprisingly) allow the grooves to take hold, with the polyrhythms augmented by tuned percussion, cymbals, gongs and more. Closer ‘The Fringe Science’ sees the group take a more cerebral approach to the skins.
