It’s been a full eight years since Pinch last dropped on Swamp81 - or in this case the sublabel 81 - so expectations are high for this new two-track. Of course, the Cold Recordings boss knocks it out the park. ‘Walking With Shadows’ is a jerky, murky roller. Blooming out of some spooky sci-fi synth pads, the track soon becomes a spacey techno number that wouldn’t sound out of place on Livity Sound. The excellently titled B-side ‘AHH FFF SSS’ is a tuffer jam. Its base materials of synth stings and a stiff-necked kick pattern bring to mind NGUZUNGUZU and Total Freedom, but the whirring hi-hats and thick low-end root it firmly in the British soundsystem lineage. Two killer tracks on an EP that was never going to disappoint.
