The first release on Factory Floor’s own H/O/D/ Records sees the London modular-botherers bring forth two new tracks. Both ‘Heart of Data’ and ‘Babel’ spawn from the group’s 2017 collaboration with the London Science Museum, one where they provided a live score for a screening of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis in the museum’s IMAX. One can only imagine how the impressive bustle of ‘Heart of Data’ might have sounded in that space, but the lack of context makes it no less enjoyable. This track, with its skulking synths and skittish drums, is classic FF. ‘Babel’, on the other hand, is more obtuse - a slow, loping kick drum underpins seasick synths and impressionistic keyboard pads.
