Hot on the heels of the Sully and Laksa records they dropped in 2017, Bastakiya Tapes hit the ground running in the new year with a two-track from Eomac. Much like those earlier releases, the two cuts on One Spirit are tough rollers that put a dark, dubby spin on UK rave sounds. The eponymous track is UK Garage as if re-imagined by Bristol’s Young Echo crew. As a grainy two-step chugs away, the track becomes swamped with drones and grime-indebted melodies. On the flip, ‘Observe The Vessel Beneath You’ is led by texture rather than rhythm, with the icy synths of the A-side taking prominence. The overall effect is that of a dream-team collaboration between Gantz, Gaika and Burial.
