Once a highly influential player in the European techno scene, Mute offshoot NovaMute lay dormant for a few years before roaring back onto the scene in 2017. They kick off the new year with a bang, dropping a tough, deep triple-threat from Belgian up-and-comer Charlotte De Witte. The title Brussels is apt - the three cuts here sound like De Witte has somehow managed to bottle the city’s club sound. Take the eponymous opener, a booming cut dominated by tense minor chords and 909s deployed with devilish intent. On the flip, ‘Control’ is the sort of spacey industrialism that has been doing damage on the continent since the early days of the dancefloor, while ‘Look Around You’ finds itself midway between the preceding efforts.
