Ayman Rostom is surely the only producer in house to be able to lay claim to a series of songs dedicated to deceased cats. Compared to last year’s party-starting ‘Brooklyn’, ‘Martha’ is an altogether more reserved affair. The curiously stuttering groove and quizzical chord progression are less straight-forward than much of what Rostom has previously released, but this is a cut that will reward perseverance and, in the right hands, still do damage in the dance. A fine tribute to another well-loved feline. Elsewhere ‘Pots and Pans’ delivers on its title, with Rostom throwing a tonne of percussion at the track and ending up with a whirlwind groove that evinces the influence of his time spent on Black Acre. The EP closes out with the dubby house of ‘Elka’.
