Berceuse Heroique (Don’t DJ, Beneath) fronts the latest in the Berlin-N.Y.C. love-in of DJ Spider and Franklin De Costa. Both ‘F Planet’ and ‘Astral Pilot’ are dark techno dubs. The former kicks things off on a kind of warped tropicalia flex. Nervous hi-hats and small slices of what might be keys skitter around the speakers as a thick four-on-the-floor burrows into your skull. ‘Astal Pilot’ is more insidious, a track where a buzzing low bass lick and reverb-laced drones creep up on the unsuspecting victim over several minutes. Shifted goes hard on the side-chaining on his remix of ‘F Planet’ to create a disorientating industrial techno banger.
